It Calls Us Home

The time before it all fell apart will forever be sealed to memory.
There can be no way to forsake the lives that were lived
The roads that were picked for walking
The hearts chosen for breaking.
Too many nights were left in hopeless, aimless doubt.
The sanctity of the love shared was cast down
Like pearls before swine.
The power that drove the emotion died out.
The river was dammed
All the provisions were stolen by raiders.
There was no hope left for the hopeless romantics.
Passion, beauty, desire, and chaos
All left by the way side.
Imagine the collapse of such hearts.
The torment of sleepless nights
Where all that could be done was stare up at the ceiling
Wishing that something would change.
The phone would ring or the door would knock.
The Universe pulled it apart
But as a cruel reminder
Forces the mind to replay the life that was shared.
Perhaps the Universe tore it apart
Because the pieces that must be found are
Scattered across the infinite cosmos.
Instead of settling down for a safe, complacent life
A voyage must be taken.
The stars must be conquered.
Every planet must be explored.
Then, when the edge of the Universe has been touched
When the pieces that were lost have been collected
And carefully reassembled
All will be ready to push beyond what is known
And disappear into the darkness of a new life.
