Ghost
Your ghost is all I need.
A mirage of you.
The shape of your being
That only exists in my memory.
Haunt me.
Be the figment of my imagination.
It’s all I can do to be with you now.
I see you out of the corner of my eye.
The second set of footsteps I hear
When walking by myself.
I lie awake at night
But I am not afraid of the dark.
You are the shadow on the wall.
The gloom that kisses me.
Each creak and moan of this old house
Is your lullaby.
It drifts me off to sleep
Where I find you waiting for me.
We dance together in the pitch black of my mind.
Friends will ask if I am lonesome
But I’m not lonely when I’m alone.
I have your ghost.
And that is all I need.
