We the Lonely Hearts

Some are born with a bold heart.
Others a joyful heart.
But you and I were born with lonely hearts.
The bold heart may climb tall mountains.
The joyful heart may sing in the choirs of heaven.
But we the lonely hearts see and feel all.
Like a gift and a curse
We see the way the world moves.
Our eyes behold the colors that trickle down from heaven.
We feel the light that ordinary people can’t.
Our hearts embrace the darkness that ordinary people fear.
While the bold heart may stand atop the soap box and shout
Or while the joyful heart may walk only in daylight
We the lonely hearts silently watch.
Sharing our thoughts with the night.
Confessing our love to the stars.
Pleading with ourselves to remove this burden of a lonely heart.
Yes, burden.
For the bold heart can try and comfort you with tales of their adventures.
And the joyful heart can only try and make you smile so you appear alright.
We the lonely hearts will listen.
We’ll listen well because all we want is the same.
To be heard.
The bold heart will cry out to us with their pain, not seeing ours.
The joyful heart will walk away feeling better, never knowing the true cost of their smile
Which is this…
To be a lonely heart like us
We must pave the way for the bold
And make room in the light for the joyful.
